Warns Against Slur-Filled Web Site
To The Editor:
I am writing this letter to alert individuals of a Web site called peoplesdirt.com. As you can probably determine by the title, this Web site encourages writing dirty/evil comments about others.
I just recently learned of this Web site because family members of mine fell victim to this site. Residents of Fulton County posted malicious, degrading and humiliating (to say the least) comments, no lies, about loved ones of mine. I would like to inform those individuals (and you know who you are) that this is considered an act of violence - Internet harassment. If traced it could result in charges against those who wrote the comments. This kind of behavior needs to stop, immediately.
Internet harassment is becoming a major problem across the nation. Teenage suicide has increased because of Internet abuse.
I went to an attorney about this and was advised to report to the local authorities about this malicious act. However, for now I decided to write and make individuals aware of how serious this is. If this behavior continues against my family members, then I will be forced to pursue this further by involving law enforcement.
After researching it appears that Fulton County residents are among one of the larger supporters of this Web site. If you don't like someone, that's fine. However, you don't have the right to go posting degrading comments for the world to read about someone else. No one deserves this type of treatment! I am asking residents to stop accessing and supporting this Web site. Let's be a part of shutting the site down, not keeping it alive.
