Helen Ford Snyder
Helen Ford Snyder, 93, a resident of McConnellsburg, and more recently a resident of ManorCare, Camp Hill, Pa., died Saturday morning, May 2, 2009, at ManorCare.
Born February 7, 1916 in Wood, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Ellyn (Rubic) Diak. She was first married to Custer Ford, who died in 1961. She later married Calvin C. Snyder Sr., on June 21, 1967. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1993.
She is survived by four sons: John A. Ford, East Berlin, Pa.; Gary Ford, Lewisberry, Pa.; Paul Ford, Duncannon, Pa., and Danny L. Ford Sr., Highspire, Pa.; stepchildren: Dianna Messenger, Calvin C. Snyder Jr. and Cyndi Machak, all of Blairsville, Pa., along with Harvey Ford, Magadore, Ohio; Leroy Ford, Coalmont, Pa.; Glenn Ford, Wells Tannery; Larue Protivnak, Mary D, Pa., and Ruth Moffat, Chambersburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren, along with numerous step greatgrandchildren and step greatgreat grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Skvarka, Waterfall, and Madeline Shrewsburg, Blairsville, Pa., and one brother, Fred Diak, Mount Union.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard; a stepdaughter, Dorothea Kauffman; a grandson, Steven; and a greatgrandson, Kyle; and 11 brothers and sisters: Ann Lockwood, Maryland Diak, Nick Diak, John Diak Jr., Frank Diak, Kay Ramoska, Mike Diak, Russell Diak, Paul Diak, George Diak and Peter Diak.
A homemaker, she was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing and was well known for making rag rugs. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
She was of the Serbian Orthodox faith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2009, at the M.R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown, with Rev. David Ford officiating. Interment will be made in Wells Valley Methodist Cemetery, Wells Tannery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.
