Cindy Fraker, librarian at Mc- Connellsburg High School and Middle School, attended the 36th annual Pennsylvania School Librarians Association Conference at the Penn State Conference Center at State College, April 30 to May 2, 2009. The theme for the conference was "Evidence Found!!! @your library." A tour of the forensics buildings on the Penn State campus was a highlight of the conference this year.
Speakers included educational consultant Dr. Ross J. Todd, book author and illustrator Adam Rex, and author Rick Riordan.
More than 70 different workshop sessions dealt with topics and issues relating to school librarians and their role in education. Fraker was a speaker at the conference. long with Tom Reinsfelder, Reference Librarian at Penn State Mont Alto, and Jill Thompson, librarian at Greencastle High School, she presented information about the Dual Enrollment services the schools received through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant. Chambersburg and Waynesboro High Schools also participated in the grant. Students at McConnellsburg High School who are also taking online classes through Mont Alto for college credit are called "dual enrollment" students. Through this grant, the school received books and technology to support these students. The students also visited the Mont Alto campus and were oriented to the college library.
More than 75 PSLA exhibitors had display booths set up in the conference exhibit area and approximately 650 school librarians from Pennsylvania attended the conference this year.
