Mellott Admitted To Honor Society
Robert "Bobby" M. Mellott, 21, son of Lex A. and Lindsay R. Mellott of Warfordsburg, has been admitted to the Penn State University chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society.
Mellott is a junior at Penn State majoring in journalism, with a minor field of study in French.
Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on nearly 300 select college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and 7.5 percent of juniors. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify. The Society's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
Phi Kappa Phi holds the distinction of being the oldest honorary society that recognizes excellence in all recognized branches of academic endeavor at Penn State University.
Mellott is the grandson of Lois Lee Mellott and the late Delmar A. Mellott of Warfordsburg and Margaret M. Riggs and the late Dr. Robert E. Riggs of McConnellsburg.
