Federal Firefighter Grant Application Period Now Open
Congressman Bill Shuster is pleased to announce that the application period for grants through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program (AFG) has begun. The application kit is available at AFG's Web site (www.firegrantsupport.com) and the closing date for all submissions is at 5:00 p.m. on May 20.
The AFG funds are used by the nation's firefighters to increase the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations and to improve firefighter health and safety programs. FY 2009 AFG is administered by FEMA's Grant Programs Directorate (GPD) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The AFG Program will provide grants on a competitive basis to rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. In addition, the AFG allows nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations to apply for grants.
For more information, please visit AFG's Web site or contact Congressman Shuster's district office at 1-800-854-3035.
