Food Drive On Saturday, June 6, Fulton County 4-Hers will be set up around the county to collect nonperishable foods for the Fulton County Food Basket. As summer approaches, the Food Basket is in need of additional items to help local folks with school age children prepare for extra summer meals. Spring Gardening Workshop The Penn State Cooperative Extension Office in Fulton County is offering a free spring gardening workshop at the Fulton County Fairgrounds this Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The raindate is May 9h. The schedule for the event is: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. - Gardening 101:- Getting Ready to Garden With The Master Gardeners; 10 a.m. - Large Animal Composting With Greg Strait; 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. - rain barrel demonstration; 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - Container Gardening with the Master Gardeners; 11:30 a.m. to noon - Composting Basics - attend this session for a free compost bin; noon to 12:30 p.m. - Ask the Master Gardener; 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. - Vermiculture (worm composting); 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Lawn and Garden Pest Management; 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. - Spring Lawn Care with Don Fowler.
Asbury Cemetery Cleanup Asbury Cemetery Association will hold a cleanup day on Monday, May 4, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Asbury Cemetery, Green Hill and Harrisonville. Cemetery is Thursday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. All and any help will be appreciated. Mother's Day Flower Sale Saint Stephen Family Life Committee is sponsoring a Mother's Day flower sale. It will be held Friday, May 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in front of Snyder's Insurance building. There will be a variety of hanging baskets and flower pots available. There will also be birdhouses and feeders for sale.
Historical Society Library Fulton County Historical Society library has closed while the building is being renovated. Research books and genealogy materials will not be available for public use until the Fulton County Library renovation is completed in mid-summer. At that time the Historical Society library will reopen in a room on the second floor that will be accessible by elevator.
Book Sale A giant benefit book sale wil be held May 8-10, 2009. More than 60,000 new and used books of all types, plus CDs, maps, sheet music, magazines, audio cassettes, videotapes, will be offered for sale at bargain prices at the 24th annual Friends of Legal Services Book Sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9; and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. For information,, call 717-262-2326.
Awards Banquet Fulton County Chamber & Tourism awards banquet will be held Saturday, May 9 at McConnellsburg Firehall at 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required by Saturday, May 2. Fair Queen Applications Fulton County Fair Queen applications are now available for girls 16 but not over 20 years as of June 1, 2009. Entries must be submitted by July 1, 2009. Application and rules can be obtained through school or by contacting Vickie Gordon at 485-5137 or 485-4915.
