2009 Bedford And Fulton Seed Donation Program Will Once Again Provide Food, Cover For Wildlife

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Land Management Group 2 of the Pennsylvania Game Commission is once again providing an opportunity for sportsmen's clubs, conservation groups, businesses and individuals to improve wildlife habitat on state gamelands in Bedford and Fulton counties. In 2008, more than 3,000 pounds of seed and fertilizer were donated through the program, providing numerous acres of food and cover for wildlife. This year the Pennsylvania Game Commission looks to surpass last year's donations, increasing the number of planted openings on local state gamelands.

Wildlife foods that are normally cultivated on gamelands include clover, grain sorghum, oats, wheat, buckwheat, sunflower and grapes. PGC food and cover crews fertilize and plant grain mixtures and clover plots in the spring and fall months, providing food for game and non-game wildlife throughout the year.

Any individual, club, group or other organization interested in helping out wildlife through this program, please contact Land Management Officer (LMO) Jonathan S. Zuck at 814-643-1831, ext. 0.
