Historical Society News

The Historical Society Museum volunteers met at the Fulton House on Tuesday, April 14. It was decided to open the museum Friday, June 5, and to have it open each Friday until school starts in the fall. Hours will be from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

During the Strawberry Festival hours will be extended until 4:00 p.m. and the museum will be open on Saturday as well.

Also discussed was the recruitment of additional volunteers. If enough people can be persuaded to help, perhaps the museum could be open a few hours on Saturday mornings. Also, volunteers are needed with an interest in preservation of historic items, particularly paper documents.

New features currently being arranged for the summer displays at the museum are vintage toys and a small collection honoring Francis Lafayette Baker, organizer of the Secret Service. Baker was in charge of the Southern search for John Wilkes Booth. A Fulton County relative of Baker donated a sword belonging to him that has been on display for several years. The sword, pictures and newspaper articles of the time are featured.

It was announced that Elise Rinehart, a string musician from Harrisburg, will be entertainment at the spring tea to be held Saturday, April 25. Remember to get your tickets at Summer Thyme Floral.
