Hiking & Vittles Along The Tuscarora Trail Lace up your hiking boots and enjoy a 3.5 mile hike down the Tuscarora Trail to scenic Cowans Gap State Park during a two-hour event with Buchanan State Forest Ranger Shawn Lynn Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m. (Raindate is Sunday, May 24.) Tractor Pull Franklin County Tractor Pullers will hold a pull Saturday, May 16, at 6:00 p.m. at Harper's Memorial Park, Route 641, Shade Gap. Raindate is Sunday, May 17, at 1:00 p.m.
Gym Time McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends Association will be sponsoring free gym time in the old MHS gym on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from noon to 2:00 p.m., for anyone who would like to walk, workout, play some basketball, volleyball, table tennis, etc. The gym will be open every Monday and Wednesday and follow the Central Fulton School schedule. Cowboys Registration The 2009 registration for Fulton County Cowboys will be held April 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and May 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Child must be at least 9 years old by September 1, 2009, and no older than 12 by September 1, 2009, for tackle football and must be at least 5 years old by September 1, 2009, and no older than 8 by September 1, 2009, for flag football. Blessing Of The Bikes A Blessing of the Bikes will be held May 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Singers Gap UMC (raindate May 9). Free registration is at 1:00 p.m.; blessing of the bikes at 1:30 p.m.; organized ride at 2:00 p.m. and return to the church at approximately 4:00 p.m. Door prizes will be given out at 4:15 p.m. and a free picnic dinner at 5:00 p.m. The church is located five miles south of Mount Union on Hill Valley Road, Route 747. Around The World 3-D Art Camp An "Around The World 3-D" art camp will be held at Forbes Road High School June 22-26, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Children enrolled in third through twelfth grades will take a hands-on approach to learning clay sculpture and basketry techniques from other cultures found around the world. Clay hand-building techniques will likely include slab, coil and pinch and give cultural details related to Africa, Greece, China and Mexico. Participation is limited to one or two days depending on grade level. This event, held by the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission, is funded in part by a PA Council on the Arts grant. Free Youth Shoots Free youth shoots (.22 rifle and shotgun) are held at Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club, at 5:30 p.m., every Friday night in May. Open to youths 16 and younger. Rifles and shells will be furnished. Winners nightly. The kitchen will be open. Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration taken until 6:30 p.m.
X Card Shoot Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club is having a special X card shoot every Friday night at 7:00 p.m. during the month of April. Eleven regular rounds for 12 and 20 gauge (ammo supplied) and two .410 outlaw rounds (no ammo supplied). Prizes are gift certificates to Keystone Country Store. There is a gun bowl and the kitchen is open.
Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.
Youth Day Hunters Helping Kids will be hosting a youth day June 20 at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club, starting at 8:30 a.m. Children from ages 5 and above are welcome to learn and shoot rifle, crossbow, shotgun, etc. Forestry and wildlife walks, food and games will also be held. PA-R-PAC Bus Trip PA-R-PAC will be hosting a bus trip to Landover, Md., to the National Air Show located at Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday, May 17. Featured will be the Thunderbirds. The day will be spent on the Air Force runway getting close to planes and watching them put on a wonderful show. The bus will leave the McConnellsburg American Legion at 7:00 a.m. and will return around 8:00 p.m. A stop will be made in Frederick for breakfast as well as dinner on the way home. Car Show The Fulton County AVTS Drafting and Design Department is sponsoring its seventh annual auto show on April 25, 2009, at McConnellsburg High School parking lot. Registration is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. There will a bake sale as well as vehicles on display from various dealerships. Raindate will be May 23, 2009.
Practice Trap Shoots Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club wishes to invite the public to join in or practice trap shoots every Friday night until November 20 and trap shoots at noon the third Sunday of every month from now until the end of the year.
Spring Fling will be held Saturday, May 2, at Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, Pa., located 1 mile north of Sunny Ridge Station restaurant on old Rt. 522. Watch for signs. Great Cove Spring Better Ball Great Cove Golf and Recreation will be hosting a two-man better ball golf tournament on Saturday, April 25.
