Myrtie I. Bean

Orbisonia, 85

Myrtie Ives Bean, 85, a resident of Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia, Pa., and formerly of Hustontown, died at 6:05 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Fulton County Medical Center, Mc- Connellsburg.

Born March 28, 1924, in Norwich, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Leland and Ester (Dorman) Ives. She was married to James William Bean on July 24, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 3, 2006.

She is survived by the following children: William Bean and wife Patricia, Hustontown; Cynthia Toussaint and husband Andrew, Willow Grove, Pa.; Donna Bollhoefer and husband Edward, Strasburg, Va.; Gary Bean and wife Carmen, Newville; Marcia Haralson and husband James, Gainesville, Va.; Robert Bean and wife Lynne, Newport News, Va.; and Andrew Bean and wife Michelle, Greencastle.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Susanne Johnson, Allan Bean, William Toussaint, Adam Toussaint, Steven Boyce, Christine Boyce, Alexander Boyce, James Haralson Jr., Kevin Haralson, Rebecca Haralson, Matthew Bean, Hannah Bean, Rachel Bean, Sara Bean and Lisa Bean; five great-grandchildren: Allie Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Brent Johnson, Alyssa Johnson and Tyler Bean; and one sister, Marjorie Smith, Port Crane, N.Y.

A brother, Ronald Ives, and a sister, Marion Wavle, are deceased.

A 1946 graduate of the State Teacher's College at Cortland, N.Y., she went on to teach fourth grade at DeRuyter Central School, DeRuyter, NY.

She was a member of Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall, Pa. Throughout her lifetime, she was very involved with her church and held several positions. She was a Sunday School and vacation Bible School teacher, choir director, a member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Wesleyan Singers.

She was also a local columnist for the Fulton County News, McConnellsburg, and a member of the Fulton County Literacy Council.

She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She enjoyed nature, picnics and camping trips. Her children and her extended family were the joy of her life.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2009, at Center United Methodist Church, Waterfall. Pastor Mike Baumgardner officiated. Interment was at Center Cemetery.

M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. was in charge of arrangements.
