Book Sale The 24th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale will be held May 8-10 at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9; and noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 10. More information may be obtained by calling 262-2326.

SF Pre-K Registration Southern Fulton School District will be having pre-K registration Monday, April 27. Anyone having a child child who will be 3 or 4 years old before September 1, 2009, should call the school at 717-294-3400 to schedule an appointment.

Free Movie The movie "Burning The Future" will be shown free to the public on April 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the old Fulton Theatre in Mc- Connellsburg. Free refreshments and free popcorn will be provided. An old-time cartoon will be shown before the feature. The movie shows how coal mining techniques impact the environment and explains the meaning of the term clean coal. Hoof Discussion Having hoof problems? Plan to attend a workshop on hoof problems April 21 when Dr. Ernest Hovingh, Penn State University veterinarian, will be discussing issues of anatomy, hoof diseases. The workshop will be held April 21st at the Greg Strait residence north of McConnellsburg beginning at 10 a.m. Cost of this workshop is $10. Space is limited. Historical Society Library Fulton County Historical Society library has closed while the building is being renovated. Research books and genealogy materials will not be available for public use until the Fulton County Library renovation is completed in mid-summer. At that time the Historical Society library will reopen in a room on the second floor that will be accessible by elevator.

Census Jobs Testing Census 2010 is already under way and local jobs are available. Jobs that are currently open in Fulton County pay $11.75- $13.25 per hour. these are field positions and include mileage at the federal rate. Training is required for which you receive the same rate of pay. Testing sites are currently located in McConnellsburg, Needmore and Harrisonville and will soon be at Warfordsburg and Hustontown as well. Weekend and evening tests are available. Practice tests may be found at testing locations as well as online at www.2010censusjobs.gov. Call 1- 866-861-2010 to get signed up at a local testing site and to find out what to bring. Christian School Open House Fulton County Community Christian School will host an open house for families who wish to obtain additional student enrollment information for the 2009-2010 school year on Saturday, April 18, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Families will be able to tour through the school and review the curriculum. Prekindergarten (4- year-olds) - grade 12 will be offered for the upcoming school year. Additional information may be obtained by calling the school at 717-573- 4400.

Museum Open Saturday Fulton County All-Sports Museum and the McConnellsburg Alumni Museum will be open on Saturday, April 11, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the dodgeball tournament. Food Safety for Volunteers Cooking for Crowds class on April 28, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at the Fulton Theatre. Cost is $3 for class; $12 for optional manual. Contact the Extension Office at 485-4111 to register.

Food Drive Fulton County 4-H members will be holding a food drive on Saturday, June 6, to support the Fulton County Food Basket. Donations of nonperishable items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Watch the paper for more details.

AARP Tax Aide Free tax help for taxpayers with middle and low income will be available at the old Fulton Theatre, in back of F&M Bank on North Second Street, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Free e-filing. Taxes will be done for any age. No rentals, farms or businesses will be done. More information may be obtained by calling 987-3915. Do not have to be an AARP member. No parking on F&M's parking lot.
