LaVata Ivadeen Fischer
She was born February 2, 1921, in Clearville, a daughter of the late Veryl A. Dodson and M. Esther (Bowman) Dodson.
On July 2, 1941, in Cumberland, Md., she married William L. Fischer, who passed away on July 5, 1995.
She is survived by their sons,William R. "J.R." Fischer, and wife Faye (Mellott) Fischer, of Crystal Spring, with whom she resided; Francis Garlick and wife Sherry (Rhodes) Garlick, of Mercersburg; six grandchildren: Deena Kendall, of Crystal Spring; Jackie Shank and husband Ryan, of Fayetteville; James Fischer and wife Yvonne, of Texas; Adam Fischer and wife Christina, of Crystal Spring; Francis Garlick, of Everett; Trenton Garlick and wife Shannon, of Ft. Loudon; seven great-grandchildren; Lily and Ella Shank, William Michael Fischer, Cassandra, Matthew, and Skylar Garlick, and Carlyn Caron, all at home; a brother, Harry Dodson, of Bedford; and three sisters: Maxine Hite, of Huntingdon; Charlotte Householder and husband Gary, of Huntingdon; Marion Calhoun and husband Marvin, of Everett.
She was preceded in passing away by two sisters, Vera Hixson and Isabelle Bellah, and a brother, Hunter Roy Dodson.
Mrs. Fischer was a longtime member of the Cherry Lane Church of the Brethren and later in her life attended the Breezewood Full Gospel Lighthouse. She was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1940, and with her husband, Bill, owned and operated restaurants in Town Hill and Crystal Spring.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and sister who especially enjoyed sharing time and caring for family and friends and will be greatly missed
A memorial service will be Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Breezewood Lighthouse Assembly of God with Rev. Herb Wireback officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Burial will be held at McKendree Cemetery.
