Robert G. Keefer
Robert Grant "Bob" Keefer, 86, Big Cove Tannery, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at his home. He was born October 22, 1922, in Webster Mills, the son of the late Thomas and Jessie (Mellott) Keefer.
He was married to Katherine Edwards Keefer on May 16, 1944. He served in the United States Army from 1943- 1945. After being discharged from the Army, he was employed by Chicago Express as a cross-country truck driver. In the 1950s, he started Keefer Lumber Co. in Big Cove Tannery. After retiring from the lumber business, he started Keefer Chainsaw Repair in Big Cove Tannery. He enjoyed working with wood, collecting things in general and engine repair.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda M. Goetz of Orrtann; and Charlotte Krout of Hanover; five grandchildren: Shelia Dutcher of Hanover; Jeremy Lake of Hanover; Lisa Gracey of Hustontown; Angela Kendall of Mc- Connellsburg; and Meredith Mellott of McConnellsburg; 17 great grandchildren and a great-greatgrandchild. He is also survived by two brothers: Wilbert and Charlie Keefer of McConnellsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine G. Keefer, his parents, Thomas and Jessie Keefer, two grandchildren: Timothy Lake and Daryl Lake; one great-grandchild; three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. Interment was held at Laurel Ridge Christian Church Cemetery. Rev. David Hamilton officiated.
