Neva L. Harvey

Neva Layton Harvey, 71, Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at 5:13 p.m., at home after a struggle with lung cancer.

Born August 15, 1937, in Amaranth, she was a daughter of the late Chester William and Goldie Elnora McKee Layton.

She graduated from Southern Fulton High School, class of 1956. She worked for Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville, Md., from 1956 to 1968 in the offices of library, finance and insurance. She attended Otterbein United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. Her hobby was genealogy. She had a database of 94,604 individuals, 34,096 marriages and 9,354 surnames in her computer, mostly all families that lived in and are living in Fulton County.

She was the wife of Charles William Harvey, born in Keyser, W.Va., and married January 18, 1959, at Jerusalem Christian Church, Warfordsburg, by Pastor Ray Mallow.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 50 years, is a son, Lawrence Wayne, and wife Sheila (Bowman) Harvey, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue, on April 24, 1964; a son, Allen Charles on May 1, 2007; two brothers: Harper Chester Layton on February 26, 2008, and Reed McKee Layton on December 29, 2008; and also three half-sisters: Edna Wolfe, March 26, 2003; Vernona Mary Ryder, September 25, 2005; and Idella Myrtle Hollinger, May 8, 2006.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Jerusalem Christian Church, Warfordsburg. Rev. Delmas Bard and Rev. Katherine L. Lippy officiated. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
