Suspected Meningitis Case At East Stroudsburg U.
STROUDSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A male East Stroudsburg University student who lives off-campus has been hospitalized with a case of bacterial meningitis.
The university says they're working with state Health Department officials and the student's family to identify anyone who may be at risk.
Students and faculty members in the student's classes are being contacted.
Meningococcal meningitis is a contagious and potentially fatal infection of the central nervous system.
It is typically not transmitted by routine contact but is spread by saliva or other close, prolonged contact with an infected person.
A Penn State student diagnosed last week with bacterial meningitis remains hospitalized.
