It was a cold weekend in central PA but racing still went on, including a Friday night opener at Williams Grove Speedway.
Opening for the 70th anniversary season, the Grove opened under extreme cold temperatures on Friday night as Todd Shaffer led all 25 laps to post the opening night Sprint car win. Shaffer won over a fast-closing Stevie Smith who started ninth. Finishing third in the nonstop event was Sean Michael, with Mark Smith, Doug Esh, Daryn Pittman, Brian Montieth, Justin Henderson, Tim Shaffer and Jim Siegel the top 10.
Eric Tomecek scored a careerfirst 358 Sprint car win at the Grove, winning over Billy Johns, Scott Geesey, Cory Haas and Mark Freeland.
Lincoln Speedway switched to Saturday night racing over the weekend and another great track surface produced a fast run out front for Jeff Busby, who won the 25-lap 410 Sprint car main, his second career win. Busby won over Daryn Pittman, Mark Smith, 14th-starting Greg Hodnett and Sean Michael, with Brooke Tatnell, Niki Young, Doug Esh, Cody Darrah and Brian Leppo the top-10 finishers.
Selinsgrove Speedway kicked off its 2009 racing season with modified racing on Friday and Saturday night. Friday night saw Pat Ward win the small block modified main over Craig Von- Dohren, Duane Howard, Matt Sheppard and Brett Hearn, while Saturday's Race of Champions Big Block event was won by Danny Johnson after apparent winner Matt Godown was disqualified for coming up 14 pounds light at the scales. Billy Decker, Jeff Strunk, Stewart Friesen and Jimmy Horton were the top five.
