Dorothy R. Hykes
Dorothy R. Hykes, 84, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of Greencastle and the Trinity House Waynesboro, died at 1:25 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the home.
Born September 20, 1924, in Washington County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Walter N. and Elizabeth (Martin) Christophel and stepdaughter of the late Leah (Martin) Christopher.
She was a homemaker and a member of Antrim Brethren In Christ Church near Chambersburg.
She attended the Waynesboro Senior Center and worked in the Green Thumb program. She was a caregiver to the elderly, enjoyed needlepoint, cross-stitch, reading and celebrating family birthdays.
Surviving are six sons: David E. Hykes, McConnellsburg; Mark W. and J. Daniel Hykes, both of Waynesboro; Benjamin L. Hykes, Lurgan, Pa.; Asa L. Hykes, Indiana, Pa., and Paul R. Hykes, Chambersburg; one brother, Samuel Christophel, Chambersburg; one sister, Lydia Flora, Chambersburg; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and stepmother, she was preceded in death by two infant sons: Roy and Joseph; grandson Jessie Lynn Hykes; infant great-grandson Matthew Joseph Hykes and former husband Leslie A. Hykes.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 20, at 10:30 a.m., at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Pastor Ky R. Searcy officiated. Burial was made in Paradise Mennonite Church Cemetery in Hagerstown.
