Emma J. Bishop

Hancock, 71

Emma Jean "Jeanie" Bishop, 71, Hancock, Md., died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.

Born November 16, 1937, in Pearre, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry Oliver and Emma Artella Sheppard Vanorsdale.

She was a member of Price Memorial Wesleyan Church in Little Orleans, Md.

She attended Alpine School in Berkeley Springs and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose Chapter 1311, Berkeley Springs. She enjoyed reading, crafts and jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul Elmore Bishop, at home; three daughters: Sharon Louise Housewright and her husband, Ronald, Jefferson City, Tenn.; Paula Jean Hart and her husband, Warren, Berkeley Springs; and Sarah Elizabeth Steinbar and her husband, Brandon, Frederick, Md.; three sisters: Margaret Elsie Stotler, Hancock; Nina May Widmyer, Berkeley Springs; Mary Lea Robinson, Martinsburg, W.Va.; two brothers: Donald Oliver "Pete" Vanorsdale, Hancock; Melvin Edward "Jiggs" Vanorsdale, Warfordsburg; three grandchildren: Bradley Alan Hutchinson, Maugansville, Md.; Nichole Marie Hiett, Romney, W.Va.; Robert Warren Hart, Hagerstown; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Rosalea Virginia Divelbliss, Janet Geraldine Mills, Wanda Lou "LouLou" Mellott and a brother, Harry Ellsworth "Billy" Vanorsdale.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.., Tuesday, March 24, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Ssprings. Rev. Darryl G. McClain officiated. Burial was made at Orchard Ridge Church of God Cemetery.
