Scranton, Pa., Mayor Snubbed By Party

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania mayor seeking re-election says he's not worried about the Democratic Party's endorsement going to a rival.

Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty wants to get the party's nomination for a second term. But the city's Democratic committee has decided to back rival Gary DiBileo instead.

Doherty said Friday that plenty of people who get the party endorsement don't win the primary election. He said he doesn't expect the endorsement to change anything has he seeks the Democratic nomination in the May 19 primary.
