Work Begins On Bridges Over I-70
PennDOT announced last week that Monday, March 23, work would begin on the I-70 project to replace three different superstructures carrying traffic over I-70 in Union and Bethel townships, Fulton County.
The overall project will rehabilitate three bridge structures on Route 731 and Route 3006, all carrying traffic over I- 70. All three structures will have the existing decks and parapets removed and replaced, along with the removal and replacement of the beams. Minor approach work, including guiderail replacement, will also be completed.
This construction season the Route 731 and one of the Route 3006 structures will be worked on. Two detours will be in effect during construction. The detour for the Route 3006 bridge is 8.1 miles and will follow Route 522, Route 643 and Route 3007. The detour for the Route 731 bridge is 4.7 miles and will follow T-366, T-340 and Route 631. The second bridge on Route 3006 will be under construction in 2010.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise is the contractor on the $3 million project. This project will be completed with 90 percent state and 10 percent federal money.
The project is anticipated to be finished by early October.
