Beulah Grissinger will turn 91 years old on March 27. Beulah has had a pen pal in Hawaii since

she was in grade school. She was saddened to hear her pen pal

passed away recently. She visited with her once in Hawaii. Not many people can say their relationship with a pen pal lasted more than 80 years.

Public Opinion's 2009 boys basketball all-stars from this area were first team - Jesse Newman, Forbes Road; and second team members: Trent Black, Forbes Road; Ryan Defibaugh, Mc- Connellsburg. Honorable mention went to Tanner Henry, Forbes Road, and Luke Mellott, Southern Fulton.

Ed and Tracey Truax celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on March 20. They are the parents of two daughter: Mariah and Lydiah.

Marjorie Grissinger Smith, a longtime employee of the former McConnellsburg First National Bank, passed away last Friday.

McConnellsburg Senior Class spent last week in Orlando, Fla. There were 45 students and four chaperones. A wonderful time was had by all.

Spring has arrived and the activities are starting at Lions Club Park, so drive carefully when traveling that way.

James Nelson Deshong is home recuperating after stomach surgery in Chambersburg Hospital. His wife, Rachel, recently had shoulder surgery.

Tom and Delores Christian and friends Ted and Jane King spent last week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and celebrated St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, Ga.

"News" publisher Jamie Greahead spent Saturday and Sunday in Montoursville, Pa., visiting with his grandchildren Lucy and Tommy, daughter Bronwen and son-in-law Tom Cullen. On Sunday he and the Cullens heard 8- year-old Lucy play during a piano recital held at Lycoming College that featured the young students of area piano teachers.

A surprise 60th birthday party was held on Saturday in Camp Hill for Joyce Warthin by her husband, Larry, and children Heather and Todd. Those attending from this area were her sister, Carol Mellott, and family Brian, Brandi and Ethan, Denise, Ben, Chelsea and Hilary and Greg Garland, Mike Rockwell and Judy Turpin of North Carolina.

It happened this week: Frank Sinatra made his first feature film appearance in "Las Vegas Nights" in 1941 as a singer with Tommy Dorsey's band. He later appeared in 68 movies.

Country shortcut: To keep a mixing spoon from falling while it's resting in the post, clip a wooden clothespin to the handle of the spoon. It will hold it in place.
