Harvey Scores Walk-Off Home Run At La Roche

Lizz Harvey of McConnellsburg had a "walk off" home run in a 5-2 win over La Roche college of Pittsburgh at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., last week.

Harvey's college team, the Wentworth Leopards, from Boston, were tied 2-2 with La Roche going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Wentworth managed to put two runners on first and third, at a cost of two outs. Harvey then came up to bat and sent a fast ball to the fence in foul territory.

"I figured the next pitch would be the changeup," Harvey said, "so I just waited for it."

When it came, Harvey smashed it about six feet past the left centerfield fence to cinch the win.

Other teams participating in the ASA-sanctioned spring exhibition matchup at Myrtle Beach included Charleston (South Carolina) University, Juniata College (Huntingdon) and Keystone College (La Plume, Pa.).

Defensively, Harvey is catcher or plays third base. She is a sophomore at Wentworth Institute of Technology, majoring in architecture.
