Almeda M. Garber, 72, Mount Union, died at 5:08 p.m., Saturday, March 14, 2009, at her home.

Born July 26, 1936, in Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late James and Ellen (Hughes) Chaney. She first married John Showalter Sr. Her second marriage was to Isaac Garber. Both men have preceded her in death.

She is survived by two children: John Showalter Jr. and wife Teresa, Mount Union; and Brenda Jones, Houtzdale; five grandchildren: Wayne Weaver, Sabrina Weaver and Christopher Hawkins, all of Houtzdale; and Angela Smith and husband Nicholas and Amanda Holland, all of Mount Union; five greatgrandchildren: John Varner Jr., Houtzdale; and Kenzyann Fink, Blayton Holland, Skyler Warner and Caleb Smith, all of Mount Union; two sisters: Laverne Baughman, Waterfall, and Joyce Clark and husband Laverne, Alma, Mich.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachael Garber; and three brothers: Wilmer, Raymond and Jerry Chaney.

She worked primarily as a homemaker, but had also worked for Inners Amusement, York.

She loved spending time with her family.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 17, at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Rev. Sandra Freeman officiated. Burial was made in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Petersburg.
