A double celebration was held Saturday night in the home of Kurt and Beth Kendall of Patterson Street, for their daughter,

Whitney, who was 19, and also to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary

of Frank and Phyllis Reel, Beth's parents. Whitney's father was the late Denny Deshong.

Treasure Trove Thrift Store, operated by the OSI, opened for business son Saturday with the store filled with customers all day. Hopefully it will continue to be like that. The appearance of the store was very nice.

John, Pam and Emile Ott visited with Jordon Ott over the weekend in Indiana and attended the basketball game between Michigan State and Indiana.

The Friendship Class of Mc- Connellsburg Methodist Church made more than 200 quarts of soup last Friday to sell.

Kelly Weaver and friend Mary of North Carolina and Jeannie Wang of California were here to attend the funeral of their grandmother, Jean Mellott.

Doris Lynch and son Terry of Halifax recently attended a NASCAR race in Las Vegas, Nev., and enjoyed the sights.

Greg and Vickie Gordon of town and John and Valerie Gobin Park and children Amie and Steven of State College, spent 10 days visiting with the Parks' daughter, Sarah, who is a Penn State student and is finishing her junior year in Ireland.

Public Opinion's 2009 girls basketball all-stars from Fulton County are Brooke Whiteside, first team of Southern Fulton; Lacey Beatty and Chelsey Hollenshead, Southern Fulton; and Michelle Baker, McConnellsburg, second team. Honorable mention went to Natasha Bard, Southern Fulton, and Courtney McClure and JJ DeShong, both of McConnellsburg, and Kaili Hockensmith, Forbes Road.

Country shortcuts: To plug a leak in a garden hose, break off a third of a toothpick and slide it into the hole until the edge is flush with the hose. Wrap waterproof tape around the hose to secure. Should get you through the season.
