Hess Says Trout Stocking Schedules Now Available

Rep. Dick Hess (R-Bedford/ Fulton/Huntingdon) is pleased to announce that trout stocking schedules are now available at his district offices for opening day of trout season in April.

A total of 744 streams and 124 lakes will be stocked as a part of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission's 2009 adult trout stocking program. Stocking occurs year-round, though most anglers typically view March as the official start of stocking season.

"Fishing is just one of the many outdoor activities for which Pennsylvania is known," Hess said. "Trout fishing is a favorite pastime for many, and I am pleased to offer trout stocking schedules to the residents of the 78th Legislative District."

To make the stocking schedules more convenient, all stockings scheduled throughout the year on all waters are listed in one consolidated, easy-to-read listing. There will no longer be separate preseason and in-season schedules.

Hess noted that the PFBC will stock nearly 4 million adult trout in Pennsylvanian rivers and streams that are open to the public for fishing. More than 1 million additional trout will be stocked by private contractors across the commonwealth.

Opening day for trout season is currently scheduled for Saturday, April 18. There will also be a regional opening day for certain counties in southeastern Pennsylvania.

"I encourage anglers to take advantage of all information the trout stocking schedule offers," Hess said.

Copies of the trout stocking schedules can be obtained from Hess' Bedford County office located at 133 S. Richard Street in Bedford, phone 814-623-9097, or his Fulton County office located at 314 Lincoln Way East, Suite A, in McConnellsburg, phone 717-485-4430. Schedules can also be viewed on Hess' Web site at DickHess.com.
