Big Cove Tannery, 89

Jean Carey Weaver Mellott, 89, Big Cove Tannery, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at her home with her family by her side.

She was born July 4, 1919, in Dunn Station, Pa., the daughter of the late Wilber and Pauline (Blake) Carey. In 1937, she married Robert O. Weaver, who passed away in 1950. She later married George F. Mellott, who passed in 2000.

She was employed by Sagner Inc. in McConnellsburg as a seamstress.

She was a member and very active in Cito United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Fulton County Society of Farm Women, Cito United Methodist Women's Auxillary, Fulton County Medical Center Auxillary, the Democratic Club and worked on the Ayr Township Election Board for several years.

She is survived by one daughter, Rita Plessinger, McConnellsburg; one son, Alvey Mellott, Big Cove Tannery; one sister, Bess Irey of Amity, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Pauline Carey; her first husband, Robert O. Weaver; her second husband, George F. Mellott; one son, Robert "Buck" Weaver; one daughter, Mary Ann Seiders; one sister, Mildred Wood; and one brother, John Carey.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Cito United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Cito United Methodist Church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cito United Methodist Church, 3746 Cito Rd. McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
