Harold W. Parson

Harold W. Parson, 70, Mc- Connellsburg, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Burnt Cabins November 2, 1938, the son of the late Walter W. and Ganavice "Janet" M. (Morrow) Parson. He was the husband of Elfriede (Janda) Parson, whom he married on May 7, 1978.

He served in the U.S. Army as a E-4 in the Vietnam War, formerly attended the Pleasant Hill Church in Shade Gap, was a member of the Masonic lodge in Seattle, Wash., member of American Legion Post 561 in Mc- Connellsburg, and a member of IBEW Electrical Union.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons: John W. Parson, Soldotna, Alaska; Keavin "Tim" Parson, Wasilla, Alaska; Blair Souders Jr., Harrisonville; daughters: Susan M. Mellott, Needmore; Christine A. Thomas, Dry Run; brothers: Thomas F. Parson, Mt. Union, and Ronald E. Parson, Morristown, Tenn.; sisters: Barb Hill, St. Thomas, and Virginia "Ginny" Davison, State College; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three step-greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine A. Anderson; brothers: Utts "Mick" D. Parson and Walter "Peach" D. Parson and a sister, Beverly M. Parson.

Funeral services will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 5. Chaplain John Winkler will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap. Military services will be conducted by Fulton Honor Guard.

There will be visitation on Wednesday, March 4, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. There will also be visitation one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Harold Parson to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
