Amos E. Atherton

Amos E. Atherton, 85, Mc- Connellsburg, died Monday, February 16, 2009, in Fulton County Medical Center.

Born August 28, 1923, in Sylvan, Pa., he was a son of the late Clarence H. and Grace M. Keefer Atherton.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot and retired in 1970.

He was a member of Maple Grove Church of God of Mercerrsburg and attended Greencastle Church of God.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a life member of VFW 6241 and American Legion 516, both of Mercersburg.

Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Neil Atherton, whom he married September 7, 1949; a daughter, Linda K. Keefer, Clear Spring, Md.; four sons: Larry M. Atherton, Travis W. Atherton and Tommy E. Keyser, all of Mercersburg; and Henry F. Keyser, Cove Gap; eight grandchilren and nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Hensley, Harrisonville, and two brothers: Frank and Darrel Atherton, both of Mercesburg.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Keyser, and sisters: Lottie Robinson and Mary Clever.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home. Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiated. Burial was made in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mercersburg. The honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW 1599 conducted a graveside military service.
