Evelyn B. Souders
Evelyn B. "Ev" Souders, 76, Shirleysburg, died at 5:25 a.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at Altoona Regional Heath System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She had been in failing health for the past year.
Born October 18, 1932, in Hyndman, Bedford County, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Dorothy (Hughes) Boden. She married Preston A. "Sam" Souders Sr. June 26, 1956, in Hagerstown. He preceded her in death October 5, 1987.
She is survived by five children: Helen Keiser and husband Howard, Lewistown; Wilma Dell and husband Paul, Three Springs; Deborah Leidy and husband William and Kathy Riden and husband Joe, all of Shirleysburg; and Preston A. "Sam" Souders Jr. and wife Peggy, Newton Hamilton; a stepson, Berley Souders and wife Cathy, Wells Tannery; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and seven siblings: Joe Boden, Shippensburg; Minnie Foor, Shirleysburg; Richard Boden, Hustontown; Robert Boden, Mercersburg; John Boden, Shirleysburg; Jim Boden, Willow Hill; and Ruth Lautzbaugh, Newville.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Noah Souders and two brothers: Charles and Sears Boden.
She was a member of the Village Lighthouse Chapel, Cross Keys, where she was active in different church functions.
She had worked at the former Arrow Shirt Factory, Huntingdon, from which she retired. She also worked at the Mount Union and Mifflintown plants of Empire Kosher. She also worked for the Shirleysburg Board of Elections.
She enjoyed her family and playing bingo and loved going places with her sisters.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Pastor Judy Rowles officiated. Burial was made in Germany Valley Cemetery, Shirley Township.
