Free Veterans Assistance

Jim Krobath of the Governors' Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center will visit the F&M Trust in the Penn's Village Shopping Center in Mc- Connellsburg on Tuesday, March 10. Free help and advice will be available for veterans and family members from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

You may be eligible for a pension from the Department of Veterans Affairs if: you are a veteran with wartime service or the surviving spouse of one, and you are permanently and totalled disabled or 65 years of age or older, and you meet the annual income thresholds set by law.

There are several pension categories and income thresholds. A veteran (no dependents) is $11,830 and for a surviving spouse, $7,933. For those who are "housebound" or require the help of another person or in a care facility, the income thresolds are set higher.

The representative will have answers to questions and provide more information about these and other federal/ state benefits. Be sure to bring separation document or other proof of service to the outreach location. If you lost, misplaced or damaged this document, it can be replaced.
