March 1-7 Is Ag Safety Week
To The Editor:
As farmers prepare to take to the fields for spring planting, National Agricultural Safety Awareness Week from March 1-7, 2009, serves as a great opportunity to highlight the importance of ag safety.
Many people do not realize that agriculture still remains one of the most hazardous occupations in Pennsylvania. While working hard to ensure that everyone has safe food to eat, Fulton County farmers also must take care to be safe on their farm.
Farm safety involves everyone - farm residents (both adults and children), employees, visitors and even neighbors. On today's farm, one must be concerned about everything from maintaining buildings, machinery and vehicles in the best condition possible, to ensuring that employees are operating the farm equipment safely.
During National Agricultural Safety Awareness Week, the Fulton County Farm Bureau encourages you to learn more about agriculture and ag safety. Aside from helping our farmers and farm families to remain safe, keeping ag-related accidents low means food prices will remain affordable.
