Betty F. Morgan

Robertsdale, 85

Betty F. Morgan, 85, Robertsdale, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009, at UPMC Bedford Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May 12, 1923, in Coles Summitt, Pa., a daughter of the late John F. and Celia (Horton) Watkin. She was united in marriage to the late Lee R. Morgan on June 2, 1945, in Hagerstown, Md. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1955. Her longtime companion, James C. Smith, preceded her in death on March 27, 1992.

She is survived by three children: Ronald L. Morgan, Robertsdale; Gwen, married to Alan Smith, Saxton; Deborah, married to Lance Baker, Saxton; grandchildren: John R. Walter, Reading; Todd Walter, Bellefonte; Douglas A. Smith, Brent A. Smith and Patrick J. Smith, all of Saxton; Lacey A. Baker, married to Steve Duff, Beaver Creek, Ohio; Lindsay B. Baker, married to Shannon Dolte, Crystal Lake, Ill.; Jada L. Baker, married to Jon Hines, Shippensburg; five greatgrandchildren; and one sister: Mrs. Ila Moyer, Huntingdon. She was also very fond of her traveling companion, Ruth Lundquest; her caregiver, Kathy Stapleton, and Anne Brown, granddaughter in-law.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Harriet Watkin.

She was of the Protestant faith and attended the former Broad Top City Church of Nazarene.

She was a graduate of Robertsdale High School Class of 1939.

During her life she was employed by the former J.C. Penny's Company, Huntingdon; N.L. Mc- Clain Store, Robertsdale; Allie Masood's Economy Store, Robertsdale, from 1958-1960; Shirley Home for the Aged, 1964- 1972; PennDOT's Huntingdon maintenance headquarters as a payroll clerk, 1960-1963, and later from 1972-1985; and The Daily News, Saxton office, as a parttime office manager, 1987 to May 2004.

She was a member of Hopewell Area Senior Citizens Center, Broad Top Area Coal Miners Historical Society and the Coal Miners Daughters.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Akers Funeral Chapel, Saxton. Rev. Charles Davis Jr. will officiate.

Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church Street, Saxton, on Friday, February 13, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the chapel.

Burial will be held at Broad Top I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Broad Top City.
