PARSE Meeting Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) has a 9:00 a.m. breakfast meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at McConnellsburg FOVA (VFW). All retired state employees and spouses are invited to attend. For additional information, call 485-4763.

Democratic Meetings Fulton/Franklin Democratic Club meets the third Tuesday of each month in Democratic Headquarters at 7:00 p.m., 123 South Second Street, McConnellsburg. Conservation District Board Meetings Fulton County Conservation District Board of Directors monthly meetings for 2009 will be held on the following dates and times: March 12, 10:30 a.m.; April 9, 7:30 p.m.; May 14, 7:30 p.m.; June 11, 7:30 p.m.; July 9, 5:00 p.m., Laurel Ridge Pavilion; August 13, 7:30 p.m.; September 10, 7:30 p.m.; October 8, 7:30 p.m.; November 12, 10:30 a.m.; December 10, 10:30 a.m. The budget and finance, personnel, and programs and services committees meet onehalf hour prior to the regular board meeting. All district meetings are held in the district board room located at 216 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, unless otherwise noted.

Forestry And Wildlife Conference Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies will hold its 12th annual Forestry and Wildlife Conference on February 21 at Breezewood Firehall from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:15 a.m. This year's conference, "Sound Stewardship in Changing Times," will focus on various aspects of the economic and environmental value of sustainable private woodlands and how to achieve sustainability. Topics will include the impact of "forest fragmentation" - its effect on biodiversity, flora and fauna distribution and composition, carbon sequestration, oxygen production, wind abatement, transpiration and climate modification. The latest information on the Emerald Ash Borer will be presented. "Fuels for Schools" and "Nontraditional Forest Products" will be discussed along with wildlife issues. Seminars, exhibits, lunch, refreshments, a log-to-lumber demonstration, door prizes and raffles complete the event. The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the PA Game Commission, the Urban and Community Forestry Council, Bedford and Fulton County Conservation District and S.O.A.R. are among the exhibitors. Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

Quilt Club Meeting Fulton County Quilt Club will meet Saturday, February 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in the basement of the United Methodist Church on the square. Barbara Nelleman will be teaching the Flying Geese pattern. Please bring sewing machines, cutting mats, rotary cutters, rulers, scissors, extension cords and lunch. Sportsmen's League Meeting Fulton County Sportsmen's League will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the stone house at the trout nursery on February 20.

Town Meeting Fulton County commissioners will hold a town meeting March 5, at Cornerstone Restaurant, Crystal Spring, at 7:00 p.m.

Appalachian Fruit Growers' Meeting The Appalachian Fruit Growers' meeting will be held at the Arena Restaurant in Bedford, February 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Some of the featured speakers for this year's program include: Extension tree fruit specialist Dr. Rob Crassweller with an update on his rootstock research; Dr. Greg Krawczyk on borer management in peach and apple orchards; and Dr. John Halbrendt on a holistic approach to apple scab management. There is a $30 registration fee per person for this educational meeting to defray the costs of a hot lunch, morning refreshments and all educational materials.
