Racing Roundup

The sprint cars were flying in Florida over the weekend as the O'Reilly All Stars were in action at Ocala Speedway for the first time since the 1994 season.

Racing was rained out on Thursday night but Friday night it was Tim Shaffer taking the win with a late race pass on Greg Wilson with Wilson second over Stevie Smith, Mark Smith and Daryn Pittman. Other local drivers included Greg Hodnett in sixth, Lance Dewease ninth, Doug Esh 10th, Chad Layton 11th, Fred Rahmer 14th and Pat Cannon 19th.

Saturday night it was Terry McCarl leading all 25 laps for the win just days after being hospitalized for kidney stones. McCarl took the win over Danny Lasoski, Stevie Smith, Dewease, Hodnett with Pittman sixth, Layton ninth, Mark Smith 12th, Esh 17th and Rahmer 24th.

Jesse Hockett picked up the big $12,500 payday in his win in Saturday night's ASCS Rebel region Ronald Laney Memorial at East Bay Raceway Park. Hockett, who is driving for Pennsylvania car owner Tom Buch this season won over Jason Sides, Gene Lasker, Danny Martin, Jr. and Tony Bruce, Jr.

The All Stars and World of Outlaws are in action February 3 through the 9th at Volusia Speedway Park and several more from Central PA are headed south.
