Western PA Inn Closes After 85 Years
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) - With the recession drying up credit and keeping visitors home, a landmark western Pennsylvania inn is calling it quits after 85 years.
The Mountain View Inn & Conference Center on Route 30 between Latrobe and Greensburg, 30 miles east of Pittsburgh, isn't accepting room requests beyond Saturday.
Owners Vance and Vicki Booher say in a statement the recession has caused "extraordinary declines in business.'' They say a decision by First Commonwealth Bank not to advance additional credit leaves no feasible alternative but to close.
The inn overlooking scenic Chestnut Ridge has handled as many as 100 weddings a year in the past, and boasts a notable guest list ranging from Ronald Reagan to Tony Bennett and The Temptations. The Boohers say they'll decide by the end of the week on timing and details of the closing.
