Valentine's Day Card-Making Class Stampin' Up demonstrator Dana Smith, along with the Fulton County Parks and Recreation Commission, will be holding a Valentine's Day card-making workshop at the Lions Club Community Building, McConnellsburg, on Sun., Feb. 8, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Up to 12 participants (adults) will make between between seven and 10 projects ranging from Valentine's cards, gift bags and large candy bar wrappers. A great class for scrapbookers, card-makers and anyone looking to surprise their sweetheart this holiday! Fulton County Relay For Life Kickoff The official kickoff for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life 2009 takes place from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, February 15, at the American Legion in Mc- Connellsburg. The community is encouraged to take part in this year's Relay For Life fundraising campaign. Information about Relay, which is scheduled for May 29 and 30 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, will be reviewed, including how to organize a team, different ways to fundraise, how to donate, etc. Entertainment, a cake walk, silent auction, door prizes and refreshments are also planned. Free Clothing Free clothing will be given out on Tuesday, February 17, at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's church (weather permitting). Further information may be obtained by calling 717-485-5917.

Farm Bureau Collecting Canned Goods Fulton County Farm Bureau is collecting canned goods and supplies for the Hershey Ronald McDonald House through February 1. Drop-off locations are: Park Station, Fort Littleton; Wilkins Farm Supply, Warfordsburg; McConnellsburg Motor and Implement, McConnellsburg. 4-H Officer Training 4-H officer training will be held Thursday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m., at Fulton Theatre. More information may be obtained by calling Lori at 860-7149 or lbh13@psu.edu.

Pesticide Update Trainings will be held February 11 at Mc- Connellsburg High School, February 18 at Southern Fulton High School, February 26 at Forbes Road High School. The meetings are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. 2 core and 2 Category Credits will be offered. If the county schools have a weather closure, the meeting will be canceled and rescheduled. SF Kindergarten Registration Southern Fulton School District will be having kindergarten registration on February 26 and 27. Anyone having children who will be 5 years old before September 1, 2009, should call the elementary school at 717-293-3400 to schedule an appointment.

Interested in local government? Municipal primary elections will be held in May - now's the time to throw your hat in the ring. Penn State Cooperative Extension is offering a workshop, "How to Run for Local Office" on Monday, February 2, from 7-9 p.m. at the Fulton Theatre in McConnellsburg. Find out what you need to know to run for elected office in your township, borough or school district. The workshop provides an overview of Pennsylvania local government, a discussion of how to run (filing petitions, campaign finances, etc.), and a panel of recently elected local officials, who will share their experiences. While there is no charge to attend the workshop, preregistration is recommended to ensure adequate materials are available at each workshop. Tree Seedling Sale Fulton County Conservation District is having a tree seedling sale. Trees available are: fruit trees, berries, etc. - apple, peach, sour cherry, pear, Asian pear, plum, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and asparagus; nut trees - English walnut, American hazelnut, heartnut and American chestnut seedlings; tree seedlings - red pine, white pine, Douglas fir, red oak, chinkapin oak, white oak, shagbark hickory, Norway spruce, blue spruce, balsam fire, Fraser fir and American plum; landscaping trees - bur oak, pin oak, scarlet oak, American arborvitae, Douglas fir, Eastern hemlock, hand select blue spruce, chinkapin oak, Fraser fir, balsam fir, Norway spruce, white spruce and white pine. Tree seedlings and landscaping trees vary in size. Size is indicated on the order form. Deadline for all orders is March 6, 2009. Grant Writing Grant Writing -- Making the Most of Your Grant Efforts, will be held Tuesday February 10, 2009, at Fulton Theatre, Mc- Connellsburg, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost is $20 per person (includes all materials, lunch, and refreshments). The program is designed to introduce community organizations, nonprofits and local governments to the fundamentals of finding and getting grant funds. This workshop will help clarify the grant writing process and improve your group's ability to accomplish its long term goals. Topics include: Why get a grant; organizing for fundraising, understanding the grant seeking process, understanding and working effectively with foundations, how to find and work effectively with public funders, writing effective proposals and making the most of your grant searching efforts. There also will be hands-on examples and exercises, advice from local experts and a chance to network with other Fulton County organizations. AARP Tax Aide Free tax help for taxpayers with middle and low income will be available at the old Fulton Theatre, in back of F&M Bank on North Second Street, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday beginning February 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and February 11 only, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Free e-filing. Taxes will be done for any age. No rentals, farms or businesses will be done. More information may be obtained by calling 987-3915.

4-H Joe Corbi Fundraiser Joe Corbi forms are now available at the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office. The sale will run until February 13, with delivery on February 26.
