Well here we are in 2009 as the countdown to the first green flag of the season has begun.
It won't be long until many of the top Sprint and Late Model teams will invade Florida for several weeks of racing with the World of Outlaws and O'Reilly All Stars and then just a week or two after that, local racing kicks off at Hagerstown Speedway.
But before the dirt track season gets under way, the annual Motorsports 2009 show will be held next weekend in Atlantic City at the Convention Center. The show will open Friday, January 16, and run through Saturday night January 17. The Convention Center will be filled with all sorts of Motorsports cars and exhibits.
Some of the stars of NASCAR and beyond will be on hand to meet and greet, including NASCAR Sprint car drivers Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano, while truck driver Johnny Benson will be on hand. Others on hand will be Antron Brown, Wally Dallenbach Sr., and James Hylton.
For more information on the show, please visit www.aarn.com.
The annual York Dirt Trackin' show will be held January 23- 25 at the York Expo Center at the fairgrounds. The hall will be filled with all types of race cars that will be in competition this season along with so much more.
Hagerstown Speedway plans a Saturday, February 21 season opener featuring the Late Models and 410 Sprint cars. A raindate of the 22 is scheduled.
Lincoln Speedway kicks off a week later with the Icebreaker 30 for the 410 Sprints on Saturday, February 28 with a Sunday raindate as well.
Williams Grove Speedway will not start until Friday, March 20, this season, meaning no more boring Sunday after races on the big half mile. The Grove will then be in competition through the entire month of October instead of ending after the National Open.
And for those of you who are making some early vacation plans, the schedule for the 410 Sprint Keystone Cup Sprint Series will be kicked off Wednesday, May 20, at Grandview, followed by consecutive nights at Hagers-town, Williams Grove, Lincoln, Selinsgrove and ending on Memorial Day at Port Royal.
As for the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek series, it begins on Saturday, June 27, at Lincoln Speedway with a June 28 date at Bedford. Bedford will use Monday, June 29, as a raindate, then Grandview is up on June 20, followed by Hagerstown on July 1, then two straight nights at Williams Grove before finishing up Saturday, July 4, at Port Royal and Sunday, July 5, at Selinsgrove.
That's it for this first week of 2009 as we hope everyone enjoyed a very happy holiday season. So until next time, e-mail always reaches me at Bvores@aol.com.
