Chester J. Long, 82, Chambersburg, died Friday, January 2, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born October 26, 1926, in Wood, Pa., he was the son of the late Clifford and Fannie Long.

He served during world War II in the Army Air Corps and later was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot as a surveillance inspector. He enjoyed working on small engines, motorcycle-riding travel and gospel concerts.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine M. McQuait Long, whom he married May 6, 1992. He was the father of Gary L. Long, Chambersburg, and stepfather of Sharon Riley (Richard) of Hopewell; grandfather of Kevin Long, Troy Michael Long, Cherryl Spoonhour, Barry Shields, Samuel Shields, Chad Riley, Brian Deshong and Brooke Riley; great-grandfather of 13; brother of Violet Witter, Mc- Connellsburg; Dorothy Rosenberger, St. Thomas; Lillie Knepper, Chambersburg; Viola Keefer (John), Roxbury; Paul E. Long, Chambersburg; and Charles W. Long, Lemasters.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn M. Long, who died October 8, 1986; three brothers: Ralph, Raymond and Earl Long; two sisters: Mary Fix and Freda Long (infant); a grandson, Jerry A. Long; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Spoonhour.

Funeral services were held at First Church of God, Chambersburg, Tuesday, January 6, at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Earl Mills and Rev. Vernon Edward officiated. Burial was made in Lincoln Cemetery.

Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
