Joanna Jay, 98, Everett, died Monday, December 29, 2008.
She was born September 12, 1910, in Snake Spring Valley, a daughter of the late Frank and Earnie (Cessna) Miller.
On January 20, 1929, she married Floyd Jay, who passed away January 10, 1995, having been husband and wife for nearly 66 years.
She is survived by their children: Anna Louise Smith, Everett; Ted Jay and fiance Barb Steele, Everett; six grandchildren: Allan Smith and wife Cindy, Osterburg; Karen Rose and husband Larry, Bedford; Roberta Arnold and husband Todd of Schellsburg; Marlene Sipes and husband Jeff, Breezewood; Monica Suhr and husband Leslie, Harrisonville; Michelle Brown and fiance Tom Peck, Mc- Connellsburg; eight great-grandchildren: Darin Smith, Marlena Smith, Jason Price, Andrew Thomas, Joseph Fetter, Alex Sipes, Shauni Sipes and Belle Suhr; a special niece, Delores Straw, Bedford; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James D. Jay; a grandson, Robert J. Smith; two infant sisters; two sisters: Mary Ford and Pauline Stepler and two brothers: Kenneth Miller and Frank Miller.
She was a longtime member of Cherry Lane Church of the Brethren where she was a member and past treasurer of the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of Everett Happy Senior Citizens, the Everett Lioness Club and member and past treasurer of Woodbush Community Center.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, reading of all sorts, together with her Bible and the daily newspaper to keep up with local events. She was a thoughtful and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 2:00 p.m., at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Everett. Pastor Eleanor Fix officiated. Burial was made at Mt. Union Cemetery.
