Search For Missing Man Concludes

Local officials aid in investigation for Greencastle man

A search that began during the early morning hours Monday ended eight hours later when investigators found the man's body along a walking trail off Tower Road on Tuscarora Mountain.

The Greencastle Police Department initiated the search for the 64-year-old Greencastle resident at 1 a.m. after he reportedly threatened bodily harm. Their efforts led them to Tower Road at the Fulton/Franklin County line where the man's body was found off the roadway on Fore Trail, Peters Township.

Aiding Pennsylvania State Police from Chambersburg and McConnellsburg with the investigation were the state police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), forest rangers from the Buchanan State Forest, Franklin County Emergency Management Agency as well as fire and emergency personnel from McConnellsburg, St. Thomas and Mercersburg, Montgomery, Peters and Warren (MMP&W).

According to reports, Mc- Connellsburg Ranger 56, a sixwheeled utility terrain vehicle, was utilized to transport the man's body from the scene. The deceased's name has not been released, but it has been noted he suffered what has been categorized as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
