Webcast For Landowners Considering a timber sale? A Web cast for landowenrs will be held Tuesday, January 13, at 7:00 p.m., at DCNR Forestry Building, McConnellsburg. It is free and open to the public. Timber sale time and harvesting represent the most opportune moments for landowners to make a posiive impact onthe land. In the same vein, without forethought, harvesting can have negative impacts from which the forest cannot recover. This presentation will highlight the planning, options and emphasis on the next forest that must be worked through before equipment is allowed on the property. Insects In Your Garden and Forest Learn about the insects that inhabit gardens and woods on Saturday, January 17, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at Butterfly Gardens, Cito Road, McConnellsburg. It is free and open to the public. Speakers will be Guy Stottlemyer of the Bedford County Conservation District, who will present on mosquitoes and the problems they can bring and Dave Schmit, forest entomologist with DCNR, Bureau of Forestry, who will speak about other insect pests in the local woodlands. Basket Weaving Class Fulton County Parks & Rec Commission will offer a basket weaving class on Saturday, January 31, at 9:00 a.m., at the Lions Club Community Building, McConnellsburg. Tree Seedling Sale Fulton County Conservation District is having a tree seedling sale. Trees available are: fruit trees, berries, etc. - apple, peach, sour cherry, pear, Asian pear, plum, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and asparagus; nut trees - English walnut, American hazelnut, heartnut and American chestnut seedlings; tree seedlings - red pine, white pine, Douglas fir, red oak, chinkapin oak, white oak, shagbark hickory, Norway spruce, blue spruce, balsam fire, Fraser fir and American plum; landscaping trees - bur oak, pin oak, scarlet oak, American arborvitae, Douglas fir, Eastern hemlock, hand select blue spruce, chinkapin oak, Fraser fir, balsam fir, Norway spruce, white spruce and white pine. Tree seedlings and landscaping trees vary in size. Size is indicated on the order form. Deadline for all orders is March 6, 2009. Grant Writing Grant Writing -- Making the Most of Your Grant Efforts, will be held Tuesday February 10, 2009, at Fulton Theater, Mc- Connellsburg, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Cost is $20 per person (includes all materials, lunch, and refreshments). The program is designed to introduce community organizations, nonprofits and local governments to the fundamentals of finding and getting grant funds. This workshop will help clarify the grant writing process and improve your group's ability to accomplish its long term goals. Topics include: Why get a grant; organizing for fundraising, understanding the grant seeking process, understanding and working effectively with foundations, how to find and work effectively with public funders, writing effective proposals and making the most of your grant searching efforts. There also will be hands-on examples and exercises, advice from local experts and a chance to network with other Fulton County organizations. AARP Tax Aide Free tax help for taxpayers with middle and low income will be available at the old Fulton Theatre, in back of F&M Bank on North Second Street, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday beginning February 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and February 11 only, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Free e-filing. 4-H Joe Corbi Fundraiser Joe Corbi forms are now available at the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office. The sale will run until February 13, with delivery on February 26.
