Helen M. Whitmore, 73, Chambersburg, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born October 22, 1935, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Delilah (Souders) Purnell.

She was a 1955 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was a homemaker most of her life.

She was a member of The Open Door Church and Chambersburg Memorial YMCA.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Whitmore, whom she married December 16, 1961; four children: Terry W. Whitmore and Donald A. Whitmore, both of Chambersburg; Julie M. Kemper, Mechancisburg; and James L. Whitmore, Waynesboro; two brothers: Stanley Purnell, New Franklin, Pa., and Quay Purnell, Key West, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Raymond, Herman Jr. and Gerald Purnell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 31, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Rev. Mike Sanders will officiate. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday in the funeral home.
