Pictured above is one of the Southern Fulton Elementary School classes who collected items for the Food Basket. Southern Fulton Elementary School collected 462 nonperishable items and donated them to the Fulton County Food Basket on Monday, December 22, 2008. The help of these students has allowed the Food Basket to continue to serve the 313 families that have needed assistance in November and December. The manager of the Food Basket, Susan Cubbage, is grateful to the students and wants them to know that every donation received will help a family in Fulton County.

The Fulton County Food Basket has been receiving generous donations from various businesses, organization, and private individuals and continues to need the help of the community to feed the hungry in Fulton County. Donations like this one received from the school allow the students to make a difference in their home community and are greatly appreciated. The Food Basket has served 820 individuals in the past two months, which include the holiday packages, including donated turkeys and hams. The generosity of the students and that of the faculty and administration of Southern Fulton Elementary School have made the holidays more special for many individuals and families.

The Food Basket continues to serve the increasing need of the hungry in our county and can continue to use monetary and food donations. The money donated is used to purchase food for 18 cent a pound and the additional donated food items are made a part of the orders given out. For more information and for those interested in volunteering time, please contact the Food Basket at 717-485-5688.
