Our Town

The children's Sunday School class of St. Paul Lutheran Church performed a skit on Sunday, "Christmas Around the World." Those in the skit were Chase Novak, Colton and Caleb Strait, Mason and Isaac Sain, Marah and Matthew Huston and guest Abby. Instructors were Sandy Novak and Linda Strait. The children did a great job.

Michael and Danielle McGarvey Wagner of Seattle visited with relatives here and Danielle's parents over the Christmas holiday.

Visiting with Carl and Huldah Bain over the holidays were their children, Carl and Linda and Bethany of Indiana; Annette and Paul Williams of Berkeley Springs; and Bill, Dana and family of Virginia.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Harry Bain of Big Cove Tannery, who passed away on Thursday and to the family of Lillian Cover, who passed away on Sunday.

The descendants of the late Maynard and Lois Paylor held their annual Christmas dinner at the Great Cove Club restaurant on Sunday, December 21.

The family of Guy and Wanda Truax of Pleasant Ridge Road held their family Christmas party in the home of daughter Patty and Leon Mellott of Needmore, with around 70 attending on Saturday, December 20.

Marvin and Dana Winters of Cooper Lane had a Christmas celebration on Saturday, December 20, with Dana's family members attending, including her parents and brothers and families and other relatives.

Birthday wishes to Evelyn Reeder, December 23; Virginia Bivens, December 31; Reed Lynch and Richard D. Seville, January 1; Shirley Hall and Pete Bogetti, January 4; Kurt Kendall, January 6; and Ricky Souders, January 8.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Zach leasure, Southern Fulton basketball. Male athlete of the week for the Public Opinion was Jesse Newman, a junior at Forbes Road, who is the point guard for the Forbes Road Cardinals. He is the son of Tim and Robin Newman. Female athlete of the week was Chelsey Hollenshead of Southern Fulton, a senior who plays guard for the Indians. Her parents are Joe and Heather Hollenshead.

Forbes Road boys finished second in the Fannett-Metal boys basketball Christmas tournament, losing to Fannett-Metal in Saturday's championship game. It was Fannett-Metal's first title in 14 years. Jesse Newman was named to the all-tournament team.

It happened this week: The first stories of the world's favorite "hunny" loving bear, Winnie-the- Pooh, were published in the London Evening News in 1925. More than 80 years later, Pooh videos are number one among preschoolers.
