Maurice Lowans Jr.
Maurice "June" Lowans Jr., 84, Greencastle, died Friday, December 12, 2008, at his home.
Born June 28, 1924, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Maurice R. and Annie K. Kuhn Lowans.
He retired from Charles E. Brake Excavating Co., St. Thomas, where he worked as a blaster and truck driver.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose of Chambersburg, Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 241 and American Legion, both of Mercersburg.
Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Barnhart Lowans,whom he married May 5, 1947; eight daughters: Arlene Gordon, Hagerstown; Darlene Foust, Chambersburg; Donna Wertz, Bedford; Trudy Lowans, Chambersburg; Teresa Hockenberry, Fort Loudon; Kathy Chilcote and Dawn King, both of Mercersburg; and Anita Sheffield, Greencastle; four sons: Gary Barnhart, Harri-sonville; Donald Lowans, Fort Loudon; Raymond Lowans, Mercersburg and Tim Lowans, Greencastle; four sisters: Betty Johns, Chambersburg; Glenna Evans, Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; Patsy DuBois, Florida; and Shirley Shatzer, Greencastle; one brother, Marcus N. Lowans, Waynesboro; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond R. Lowans.
Services were held Wednesday, December 17, at 11:00 a.m., at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Rev. Raymond Martin officiated. Burial, with military honors provided by Chambersburg VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard, was made in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
