Pa. Neighbors Question Proposal For Pet Crematory
OLYPHANT, Pa. (AP) - Plans for a pet funeral home and crematory have neighbors asking questions in a rural northeastern Pennsylvania community.
The owners of the Hudak- O'Shea Funeral Home in Olyphant want to start a fullservice pet funeral home and crematory on adjacent land. The Zoning Hearing Board in the community near Scranton, 110 miles north of Philadelphia, is holding off on a decision.
At a hearing Thursday night, neighbors worried about emissions from a crematory. Robert Selinsky says prevailing winds will send any gases or odors right over his house, and he says human beings need to be considered first.
The funeral home owners, P.J. O'Shea and Donna Hudak- O'Shea, say they live over their business and won't install anything that would hurt the community.
Zoning officials say they'll research similar crematories and possibly visit one before they decide.
