Sen. Eichelberger Appointed Chairman Of Local Government

Says he is honored to assume new responsibilities

Sen. John Eichelberger Sen. John Eichelberger Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr. announced Friday that he has been appointed as chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for the upcoming 2009-2010 legislative session that begins on January 6, 2009. The appointment was made yesterday by President Pro Tempore and Lt. Gov. Joseph Scarnati (R- 25).

Eichelberger said that "our system of government in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania is somewhat unique and brings difficult challenges that need appropriate attention. As a former county commissioner, I understand the difficulties and constraints facing local officials and will try my best to help those officials and the people we collectively serve."

The Senate Local Government Committee is a standing committee that handles legislation pertaining to local government. The chairman is responsible for setting the agenda that includes scheduling meetings and hearings on issues the chairman would like addressed.
