Sen. Eichelberger Appointed Chairman Of Local Government
Sen. John H. Eichelberger Jr. announced Friday that he has been appointed as chairman of the Senate Local Government Committee for the upcoming 2009-2010 legislative session that begins on January 6, 2009. The appointment was made yesterday by President Pro Tempore and Lt. Gov. Joseph Scarnati (R- 25).
Eichelberger said that "our system of government in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania is somewhat unique and brings difficult challenges that need appropriate attention. As a former county commissioner, I understand the difficulties and constraints facing local officials and will try my best to help those officials and the people we collectively serve."
The Senate Local Government Committee is a standing committee that handles legislation pertaining to local government. The chairman is responsible for setting the agenda that includes scheduling meetings and hearings on issues the chairman would like addressed.
