Woman Wins $1.8M In Discrimination Suit
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A suburban Pittsburgh woman has been awarded $1.8 million in a federal discrimination suit against her employer, which fired her while she was on maternity leave.
Thirty-six-year old Carole Smith, of Bethel Park, had been a property manager for Normandy Properties LLC. A jury issued the award Thursday.
Smith claimed the company illegally fired her three weeks after she gave birth to her son in November 2005.
The company rehired Smith after she filed the suit and she works as a leasing agent.
