Legion Auxiliary Holds Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary met November 12, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. There were nine members present. Betty Cutchall, Jean Davis, Michelle and Sheila Seaburn and Carol Singel attended the district council meeting held at Fort Loudon Legion on October 2. A memorial service was held to honor the deceased members from the past year.

Installation of officers was held at St. Thomas American Legion October 5 at noon. Officers attending were vice President Carol Singel; Treasurer Joyce Mellott and chaplain Betty Cutchall.

On October 23, all dressed for Halloween. A trip was taken to Leisure Living by Betty Cutchall, Jean Davis, Cindy Headley, Joyce Mellott and Carol Singel. All residents enjoyed an evening of singing and treats. A Christmas trip is being planned for December 11.

Donations were made to Santa Claus Fund for Veterans in hospitals, St. Judes Children's Hospital, Children's Miracle Network, Hollidaysburg and Martinsburg VA hospitals.

December 4 will be the next council meeting in McConnellsburg. Any auxiliary member who would like to attend should make reservations by calling 717-987-3706 no later than November 28.

The Americanism Essay Contest will be titled "Soldiers, Past and Present ... America, Honor Your Veterans." The essay contest is open to any student in grades three to 12 in Fulton County school districts. The paperwork for the contest will be at the schools by December 15. The winning student from each division will receive a $50 United States Savings Bond from the auxiliary. These essays will be sent on to council level for judging, and winners from there will go on to state level, with prizes being awarded at each level. Deadline is February 26.

Adams, Franklin, Fulton, York County Council American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship will again this year be awarded to to high school students entering a two- or fouryear college, trade school or business school following graduation. The award will be in two payments of $500 each. Applications, scholarship rules and check lists will be available at all area high schools by December 15. Deadline for the contest is April 1.

December 10 will be the next auxiliary meeting. This will be a covered dish meal at 6:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to exchange a gift please bring a $5 wrapped gift.
