It was the first off weekend of the season as the 2008 racing season concluded more than a week ago as teams start preparing for the 2009 racing season.
We learned that Hagerstown Speedway's in 2009 will be an early one! It's set for Saturday, February 21, featuring the Late Models and the return of the 410 Sprints to the season opener at the Hub City oval. Years ago, Hagerstown would always start the season with the 410s, and with Williams Grove not scheduling any early season shows in 2009, it opened the door for the early date for the Sprinters. It's still too early!
Lincoln Speedway will kick off the 2009 season a week later on February 28 with a Sprints-only program. Lincoln always starts the last Saturday in February and usually finds good weather and big crowds for the early season shows.
Williams Grove's 2009 opener will be on Friday night, March 20, the first time the Grove has started on a Friday night since as long as I can remember. It's a good call by management and the track will continue to run through the month of October instead of closing earlier.
We are hearing the All-Star Sprints will be returning to Ocala Speedway in Florida in January. The track was been made back into a dirt track and the All-Stars will get three dates there before heading to Volusia Raceway Park the following week. Many central PA teams always make the trek south to start the season.
Don't forget the Motorsports 2009 show presented by VP Racing Fuels is set for January 16 and 17 at the Atlantic City Convention Center in Atlantic City, N.J. The Indoor Gamblers Classic races are also run in conjunction with the Motorsports show.
Lincoln Speedway will honor its top drivers this Saturday night with its banquet in York, while Hagerstown Speedway is set to honor its champions and drivers next Saturday, November 29 in Hagerstown.
That's it for this week as we are set to close out the regular season in Beaver Stadium this weekend with hopes of a big PSU win and a trip to Pasadena on New Year's Day. So until next time, e-mail reaches me at Bvores@aol.com.
